Turned the Day Around - Poetry Teatime
Turned the Day Around

Turned the Day Around

She must have heard me crying...I was on the phone with a doctor about my special needs son. I was upset, my voice was shaking and tears were streaming down my face. After I pulled myself together, I walked to our kitchen. My 2nd grade daughter had put a table cloth on the table and gathered all the supplies for a Tuesday Teatime. I cried again. She said, "I thought you needed a tea time mom."

This past year Poetry Teatime has been a regular part of our home education. Originally, I was planning on having them once a month. However, my children began to ask for them each week, and so they have become a regular rhythm in our home.

They bring rest. They bring quiet. They bring love. They bring togetherness. They bring peace. They bring happiness.

My daughter knew in her little heart that mom needed to be happy, and it resonated within her to set the tea table. We were able to quickly turn around the day over tea and poetry. Each child picked a poem to share.

This is not the most elaborate tea time we've shared this year, but one of the most special to me.
